Capturing Christmas: Focusing on the Heart of the Season Amidst Distractions

I tried to take a promotional picture of the advent book we're reading through this month, but my camera kept focusing on the decorated tree instead of the book. In my frustration, I realized this parallels how God must feel about us. He wants us to focus on the good, lovely, and pure, but we often get distracted by the sparkling things that easily capture our attention.

As I delve into the true meaning of focusing on Jesus this season, I've discovered the significance of each day in the birth story. Despite inevitable distractions from responsibilities and obligations, I find solace in believing that God understands our hearts' intentions. Choosing to prioritize quiet moments of journaling and diving into the Bible instead of succumbing to social media reflects a pleasing commitment to a deeper connection with Him.

Some days, our oldest is thrilled about the daily Advent Ornament, while on others, attention spans waver. Nevertheless, I hold onto hope that these intentional conversations about Jesus during December will leave a lasting impression on our kids, fostering a year-round connection with Him.

Regardless of daily challenges, my husband and I are committed to making this Christmas special for our 10 and 1-year-old. We aim to love like Jesus and set good examples for them.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
